My master's thesis, titled "How Black is Your White Lie," originated from the exploration of the concept of happiness and the universal pursuit of it. As my research delved into various facets of happiness, the focus shifted organically towards the intriguing realm of self-deception and the use of lies as mechanisms to sustain a sense of well-being.
Delving deeper into the intricate web of lies, I conducted multiple experiments and crafted visualizations that culminated in the creation of a comprehensive book. This publication traces the developmental trajectory of a seemingly innocuous white lie, gradually evolving into a more complex and significant untruth.
The title, "How Black is Your White Lie," encapsulates the essence of the thesis, reflecting the escalating nature of falsehoods. The accompanying experiment book and curtains are deliberately designed to immerse the reader in a tangible experience, mirroring the emotional hardship associated with the progression of a small lie into a larger, unwieldy falsehood.
The meticulous assembly and binding of the experiment book, coupled with the thematic arrangement of the curtains, aim to evoke the same visceral sensations one might encounter as a small lie spirals out of control. This tactile and visual journey serves as a metaphorical parallel to the psychological journey one undergoes as a lie grows in magnitude and complexity.
Complementing the experiment book, the essay book provides a verbal synthesis of the conducted experiments, offering a comprehensive understanding of the dynamics at play. Together, these components form a cohesive exploration of the intricate interplay between happiness, self-deception, and the transformative nature of lies.
